Defi Clean Story – A co-owned building invaded by pigeons

In a large co-ownership in the city center, residents had reached their limit. Balconies, window ledges and the roofs of the buildings were occupied day and night by pigeons. At first, some people found these birds almost charming… but then droppings, feathers and nests started to build up, damaging the environment, hygiene and overall salubrity of the place.

The property manager had to face his responsibility: protect the population of the residence, reduce sanitary risk and fight the nuisances caused by these animals, now considered real pests and nuisibles. Common areas of the building, like the lobby and stairwells, were regularly soiled. In nearby publics spaces, children played under cornices full of pigeons. A real, long-term solution was needed to restore proper salubrité on site.

That’s when the copropriété called Defi Clean, a specialist company experienced in this kind of interventions. During the first visit, the technician took time to explain the method chosen: limit the proliferation of pigeons, secure sensitive zones and restore a healthy environment, while keeping full respect for the animals and current sanitary standards. No brutal or improvised actions: each step had to meet a clear objective of hygiene and safety for the bâtiments.

The pigeon control plan was built in several stages. First, progressive effarouchement – bird scaring actions – to break the habits of the pigeons on façades and roofs of the buildings. Then the installation of net systems over some inner courtyards and discreet wire lines on exposed ledges to prevent birds from landing. On the roof of the main bâtiment and the other blocks of the copropriété, devices were installed so they blended into the architecture and remained suitable for nearby public areas.

Week after week, results became visible: the population of pigeons decreased, proliferation of droppings stopped getting worse and complaints about odours and noise nuisances dropped sharply. Overall hygiene improved, strengthening the salubrité of the bâtiment and reducing sanitary risk for residents.

For the property manager and residents, this depigeonnage operation showed that a specialised company can provide an efficient and respectful service, both for people and for the urban environment. Thanks to a structured method and targeted interventions combining effarouchement, net systems and wire lines, Defi Clean gave the copropriété a calmer living space again, in line with sanitaires requirements for buildings and publics areas, and in full respect of the site and its inhabitants.
